Quick answer
In Outlook or Word, go to File → Manage COM Add-ins (or File → Options → Add-ins), find SuiteFiles and set it to always enable, then restart the app. If the panel is there but won't file anything, sign in again from the SuiteFiles panel. Still stuck? Reinstall the add-in from your SuiteFiles account and run an Office repair.
WHY IT HAPPENS
Office quietly turns it off.
The SuiteFiles add-in lets you file sent emails and save documents directly into SuiteFiles without leaving Word or Outlook. The catch: Microsoft Office watches how long each add-in takes to load, and if it decides SuiteFiles is slowing start-up, it disables it to protect performance — sometimes silently. That's why the toolbar can be there one morning and gone the next. Less often, the add-in is still loaded but has lost its SuiteFiles sign-in, so it appears but can't actually save anything. The steps below cover both.
THE FIX
Work through these in order.
- Re-enable a slow-disabled add-inIn Outlook or Word, go to File. If you see a Manage COM Add-ins or "slow and disabled add-ins" prompt, open it, find SuiteFiles, and choose the option to always enable it (or "don't monitor this add-in"). This stops Office switching it off again.
- Check it isn't marked inactiveIf SuiteFiles isn't in the slow list, go to File → Options → Add-ins. Look for SuiteFiles under Inactive Application Add-ins. At the bottom, set "Manage" to COM Add-ins, click Go, tick SuiteFiles, and click OK.
- Restart Word or Outlook fullyClose the app completely — including any copy still running in the background — then reopen it. The SuiteFiles panel should reappear on the ribbon.
- Sign in again from the SuiteFiles panelIf the panel is visible but nothing files, open it and sign in with your Microsoft 365 work account. An expired sign-in is a common reason emails and documents refuse to save even though the add-in looks fine.
- Reinstall the add-inIf it still won't behave, remove and reinstall the SuiteFiles add-in from your SuiteFiles account using the current installer. This replaces any corrupted or out-of-date files.
- Run an Office repairIn Windows Settings → Installed apps, find Microsoft 365 / Office, choose Modify → Quick Repair (then Online Repair if needed). This resets the Office components the add-in plugs into, without touching your emails or files.
- Confirm your default document formatIf saving works but attachments or filed documents open oddly, check you're saving in a standard Office format. When in doubt, save the email or document manually into SuiteFiles once to confirm the connection is alive, then retry the add-in.
Happening across the whole firm? If the SuiteFiles add-in keeps disabling itself on multiple machines, that usually points to an Office policy, deployment or update issue rather than anything one person did. That's the moment to hand it to your IT provider, who can push a consistent, supported configuration to every device at once instead of fixing them one by one.
