Can't log in to
Ignition?

Ignition (formerly Practice Ignition) won't let you in — wrong password, a two-factor code that won't work, or a page that just spins. It's almost always one of a handful of things. Work down this list and you'll be back into your proposals in minutes.

Quick answer

Most Ignition sign-in problems are a stale password or a two-factor (2FA) hiccup. Use Forgot password to reset, make sure your authenticator app's clock is right, and if 2FA is the blocker use your backup method or ask your firm's principal user to reset it. If nothing loads at all, try a private/incognito window before anything else.

WHY IT HAPPENS

Same product, two names.

Practice Ignition rebranded to Ignition a few years ago, so you'll still see both names floating around — the login is the same. Sign-in problems usually come down to four things: an expired or mistyped password, two-factor authentication you can't complete, a browser holding onto old session data, or simply logging in with the wrong email address (personal vs work, or a second practice). Australian firms with a Xero connection or Ignition Payments also have 2FA switched on by default, so a lost phone or new authenticator app is a common cause of lockouts.

THE FIX

Work through these in order.

  1. Confirm you're on the real Ignition sign-in pageGo straight to the official app (ignitionapp.com) rather than an old bookmark or an email link. Check you're using your work email address — not a personal one, and not a login for a different practice you also belong to.
  2. Reset your passwordIf the password is rejected, choose Forgot password and enter your account email. Ignition sends a reset link — open it, set a new password, and sign in. If the email doesn't arrive in a few minutes, check junk/spam and confirm the email address is exactly the one your firm registered.
  3. Fix two-factor authentication (2FA)If you're prompted for a six-digit code and it keeps failing, your authenticator app's time may be out of sync — enable "automatic time" on your phone, then try the newest code. Codes expire quickly, so use a fresh one rather than one that's about to roll over.
  4. Use your 2FA backup methodIf you've lost your phone or changed authenticator apps, use the backup method (SMS or email) you set up when you enabled 2FA. This lets you in without the primary app.
  5. Ask your principal user to reset your 2FAStill locked out of 2FA? Your firm's principal (admin) user can reset two-factor authentication on your account from the Team page — you'll then re-register your authenticator app next time you sign in.
  6. Clear the browser or try a private windowIf the page won't load, spins forever, or loops back to sign-in, open a private/incognito window and try again. If that works, clear cookies and cache for ignitionapp.com in your normal browser, or temporarily disable ad-blocking extensions.
  7. Check whether Ignition itself is upIf you and colleagues are all stuck at once, it may be Ignition's end, not yours. Check the official Ignition status page before troubleshooting further, and give it a few minutes.
If you're the principal user and fully locked out — with no working 2FA backup — you'll need to contact Ignition support directly so they can verify your identity and restore access. Keep your firm's admin (principal) contact and a 2FA backup method on file so this doesn't stall your onboarding and billing.
APPS THAT JUST WORK

Practice apps shouldn't cost you billable hours.

When Ignition, Xero or your practice tools keep locking staff out, the fix is usually in the account, sign-in security and device setup underneath. Our free IT Health Check reviews your whole environment — logins, MFA, browsers and the apps your accounting practice runs on — and shows you exactly what to tighten so sign-in stops eating your day.
